It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to our dear friend Paul L. Newman. I first met Mr. Newman in 2003, at the St Petersburg Grand Prix where he was gracious enough to sit down with me and candidly discuss the Rolex Daytona-Newman connection. I was also fortunate to spend time with him at several subsequent races, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2004, and again in 2005, where (at the age of 80) he set a record as the oldest driver ever to compete in the race. Newman was an Academy Award winning actor, racecar driver, entrepreneur and philanthropist, but more importantly he was a great human being. He has been an inspiration to us all and he will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
