What is an Automatic Watch Winder and why do I need one..?
An Automatic Watch Winder is a sophisticated electronic device that keeps watches wound when you're not wearing them. Non-battery operated watches need to be wound on a regular basis. Automatic watches were designed to remain fully wound while being worn on your wrist for a certain period of time each day.
This is accomplished by utilizing a tiny rotor inside the watch that winds the mainspring when the wearer moves his/her wrist in day to day activity. However, the "power reserve" for most watches is not more than around 36 to 44 hours. Therefore, while you're not wearing the watch it is suggested that you keep it on an Automatic Watch Winder. These sophisticated electronic devices mimic the movement of your wrist by turning the watch and thus keeps the watch fully wound.
Automatic Watch Winders can also be a means of preventive maintenance. By keeping the movement's mainspring fully wound it is less likely to fail and thus the watch is less likely to need servicing. Many watchmakers believe that when you keep the watch fully wound you can even extend the interval between regularly scheduled overhauls by as much as 50%.
We carry a generous selection of Automatic Watch Winders manufactured by Rapport, EILUX and GPW. I have personally used several of these Automatic Watch Winders for over six years now. I have tried various brands -- some cheaper, as well as some much more expensive, but I can honestly say that none compare to the quality and value of these Automatic Watch Winders. I would recommend them to everyone.
